The Inner World of an EmpathHaley HaskinMar 14, 20212 min readAn empath.Bears other’s painAs a burden of their own,And sometimes,Mistakes it entirely as theirs. An empathFinds it easy to cry,To produce from within,The waterThey so long to be beside. Empaths feel understoodWhen the colossal clouds cryWith themFat tearsFalling from the sky. … Instead of going home and crying,Like I would do,I pressed my feet into the floorboard,And drove myself to the water,A body of far more empathy than me. I set out to diffuse negative energy,And sure enough,Just like that,The trail…Lifted my burdens from the first stepInto that sacred tree line. The orange lit pathOf warm glowing treesStretched their branches over me.It looked like they were smiling,An ever so gentle lift of the lipWith the wise, tired eyesOf a mother,Weary with wisdom and love. Their welcome whispers said:“Do not worry…Come in…Everything is peaceful here.”So I did… That forest absorbed my worries,Filled them with sunshine,And placed them back,Refined with confidence,Into my awareness. The water there was still as a bath.No boats sent waves beating to its shore. It rippled calmly,Stirred only by warm breeze,As the sun cast down its rays so endearingly, Looking at meAs a grandmother may lookAt her granddaughterIn her infamous teenage years - The ones she remembersAnd understands well,Though nobody else seems to. A hug of sunshine,A listening lake.Tranquility its strongest habit,Nature is the most practicedAt mindfulness. And the water is my friend. It is the liveliest,Calmest,Most exploratory,Most peacefulThing in nature. A beautiful oxymoronOf never boring consistency,Of ever-changing sameness.A place to lose and find myselfWith the abstract graceI see in the water. I breathe it in,And it becomes a part of me.With the renewed strengthOf calmness,I am grounded.I can think.
